Overall appearance

The Australian Labradoodle is a well-balanced dog with a happy, friendly demeanor and intelligent, intuitive eyes. It was originally bred in Australia to create an allergy-friendly, non-aggressive family dog. It is also suitable for training as an assistance, therapy or medical emergency dog.

General Impression

The dog gives the impression of a strong but light-footed athlete. His friendly temperament and intuitive nature are an essential part of the breed’s character.

Temperament

An intelligent, lively, friendly and joyful dog that focuses on human contact, especially through eye contact.
Note: With poor leadership, the Australian Labradoodle may show signs of stubbornness. Due to its high intelligence, it can take advantage of poor leadership.

Head and Face

The head expression is gentle, friendly and lively. The eyes are oval or round and are one of the breed’s hallmarks. They should be large rather than small.

Eyes may be dark brown to light amber or hazel, often with long lashes. The edges around the eyes may be black, liver or dark pink.

Ears are folded, well furred and set slightly below the top of the head. The skull is slightly rounded and sufficiently large.

The nose is large, round and fleshy. The teeth and gums must be healthy, the dog has a scissor bite

Front legs

The shoulders should be muscular, strong and well developed, the shoulder blades long and slightly sloping. The elbows must be correctly orientated, not turned in or out. The forelegs are long and strong with straight segments. The paws are strong, compact and have strongly arched toes, round or oval in shape.

Hind limbs

The hind legs are strong, muscular and well developed, with well turned knees. The angulation of the hind legs is in balance with the fore legs. The paws are strong, compact and well arched, oval or rounded.

Movement

The Australian Labradoodle moves easily, athletically, gracefully and joyfully. Its topline remains horizontal when walking. At the trot, the dog appears to “dance” or float effortlessly off the ground. With increasing speed, his feet are positioned just below the centre of gravity, similar to a racehorse. The tail is often in the form of a “sable style”, but the Australian Labradoodle commonly carries its tail high when it is playful or excited.

Size

A dog’s overall balance is more important than exact measurements. A dog is slightly longer than its height.

  • Standard: height at withers greater than 60 cm
  • Medium: height at withers between 45-60 cm
  • Miniature: height at tap less than 45 cm

Hair

The coat is a characteristic feature of the Australian Labradoodle. The appearance of the coat varies depending on how the dog is clipped and regularly groomed. There are two main coat types: curly coat and fleece coat

  • Curly coat:
It has curls like a poodle, especially when the coat is wet.
  • Fleece coat :
May have loose waves or wavy curls. Fleece coats tend to be longer than 10 cm and uniformly long over the entire body, including the legs and tail

The hair on the head should be trimmed to keep the eyes free. The hair on the paws should be short so that the dog does not slip.
