Alfa Europe

The unique cynological concept of the ALFA-Europe Foundation

Nowadays many breeders cross different types of poodles with Labradors and sell the puppies as Australian Labradoodle. However, these crosses are not the original Australian Labradoodles.

Many Australian Labradoodle breeders are registered with various organisations and societies that have their own registries, databases and philosophies. These facts can cause confusion for puppy buyers who want to be sure of the authenticity of an Australian Labradoodle.

ALFA-Europe places great emphasis on ensuring that buyers receive the greatest possible assurance of the quality of AES Australian Labradoodle. This commitment has led to the creation of a unique cynological concept.

ALFA-Europe is a fund that was established in 2009 and has proven that it is possible to have a transparent and perfect registration system for breeding dogs and their offspring. By adhering to strict breeding and registration regulations, ALFA-Europe has created optimal conditions for tracking:

  • breeders and their breeding programs

  • registration of breeding dogs and their offspring

  • health issues

Our concept is built on three pillars

1. Establishing a registration system based on DNA profiles and parentage verification for each puppy. This system prevents fraud and provides buyers with a 100% guarantee that the puppy is the offspring of parents registered and verified with ALFA-Europe. The system is based on the philosophy of: “Trust is good, but control is better.”

2. Breeders are not allowed to have a different breeding program (passing off another crossbreed as an Australian Labradoodle), which protects buyers from dishonest breeders. By this rule the breeder shows his seriousness towards the buyer of the puppy. Reputable breeders are marked with a registration logo, which can be found on the ALFA-Europe website (see below).

3. To maintain control over the breeders’ breeding programme, all DNA tests are ordered through ALFA-Europe. Test results are delivered to ALFAEurope first and then added to the database. The confirmation together with the pedigree (issued by ALFA-Europe) is sent to the breeder who forwards it to the buyer. In this way, the buyer is 100% sure of the puppy’s origin.

Authentic Australian Labradoodle Registration

Australian Labradoodle registered with ALFA-Europe, as well as its offspring selected for breeding, will be entered in the ALFA-Europe Studbook. These dogs are considered authentic Australian Labradoodle – AES Australian Labradoodle. Their offspring will be registered under a litter registration number. Breeders working with original proven breeding lines are encouraged to register their dogs. This is a condition for registration with ALFA-Europe. The exact conditions for registration can be found on the website https://alfa-europe.org/ .

Our Code of Ethics:

If a breeder wants to enroll his dogs in ALFA-Europe, he must first sign the code of ethics. Our Code of Ethics is not just a formal commitment – in the event of a breach of the breeders’ rules, ALFA-Europe will take the necessary disciplinary action.

Our registration logo:

Since April 2009, every AES Australian Labradoodle has been assigned a registration logo, which the breeder must place on the website or next to the photo of the registered dog. By clicking on this logo you will be redirected to the relevant registration page of the dog registered with ALFA-Europe. In this way you can easily verify the origin of the breeding dog. If you do not find the registration number in our database, it is probably a fraud.

About the health of the AES Australian Labradoodle:

Just like humans, dogs can suffer from diseases. ALFA-Europe has developed a reliable way to keep the breeding population healthy. In addition to the strict veterinary requirements (one of the conditions for registering a dog), every breeding dog must be regularly certified healthy. Together with the breeding certificate, the breeder must present a valid health certificate for the breeding dog/bitch. It is almost impossible to breed with sick dogs under this system.

The objectives of ALFA-Europe are:

  • ALFA -Europe is committed to protecting, preserving and promoting the vitality and health of a breed suitable for allergy sufferers – the authentic Australian Labradoodle, also known as the ASD Australian Labradoodle. This breed is bred in accordance with the original vision of the founders of this unique breed

  • creating and maintaining a database to document the health and individual lineages of the AES Australian Labradoodle

  • create a reliable source of information for owners of future puppies – ALFA Europe is committed to preserving the valuable characteristics of its AES Australian Labradoodles and ensuring they are passed on to puppies of future generations

To achieve these goals, ALFA-Europe is committed to:

  • work with the Code of Ethics, as well as breeding rules and registration measures that exclude various labradoodle breeding programs (that masquerade as labradoodle breeding) to ensure that the buyer is buying a puppy from a breeder who is breeding with integrity.

  • maintain oversight of the DNA profiles of AES registered Australian Labradoodles, as well as the parentage verification (puppies and adult breeding dogs) of all European breeders who register their dogs with ALFA-Europe

  • register in the studbook Australian Labradoodles that are bred in accordance with the rules set out in the breeding rules signed at registration. Dogs entered will be registered as AES Australian Labradoodle

  • maintain a database to document the health of AES Australian Labradoodle breeding lines

  • provide transparent registration of breeding dogs on the website

  • provide true pedigrees based on DNA profiles and parentage verification certificates

  • monitor the health, welfare and breeding of the native AES Australian Labradoodle. Breeding dogs are health checked annually throughout their breeding life

    .

  • be able to organize a health monitoring survey of the entire AES Australian Labradoodle population using a well-organized database

Ethical Code

The following statement is a promise to abide by this Code of Ethics. It must be signed by every breeder whose dogs and breeding are recognized and registered with ALFA-Europe. The Code of Ethics is not just a promise without obligations. By signing it, I agree to abide by the following rules and regulations. For the sake of clarity, the Code of Ethics is divided into three sections:

1. Obligations to ALFA-Europe

2. obligations to the puppy buyer

3. obligations to fellow breeders

The Code of Ethics can only be signed once, but each time a breeder submits a new application for registration, it will be considered as a confirmation of the promise. If a breeder violates the Code of Ethics, his/her breedings and dogs will not be able to be registered with ALFA-Europe in the future.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF ALFA-EUROPE:

1. I promise not to discredit the ALFA-Europe Foundation, its board members, its breeding rules and registration regulations. At the same time I promise that I will not establish breeding relationships with breeders who breed Australian Labradoodles or dogs that resemble them but are not registered with ALFA-Europe. In the event of disagreement or conflict, I will follow the procedures in paragraphs 36 and 37.

2. I understand that if I do not comply with the Code of Ethics, I will not be able to register my dogs and their offspring with ALFA-Europe. I can count on courteous and fair treatment from ALFA-Europe if this situation arises. Neither ALFA-Europe nor I will discuss the matter publicly, but I acknowledge that, pursuant to paragraph 17, my violation of the Code of Ethics or the Breeders’ Code and Registration Regulations will be made public (see also paragraphs 15 and 16).

3. If I inform about my breeding dogs on my website, I will use only the name: AES Australian Labradoodle.

4. I will always truthfully provide ALFA-Europe with all information to be able to register my breeding dogs and their offspring. I will not withhold information that may be relevant to the future health of AES Australian Labradoodles registered with ALFA-Europe.

I will not withhold information that may be relevant to the future health of AES Australian Labradoodles registered with ALFA-Europe.

5. I will breed according to the ALFA-Europe breeding and registration regulations and ensure that health plays a major role in my AES Australian Labradoodle breeding program.

6. If I am a breeder of another, officially recognized breed of dog, then I shall submit a valid and true copy of my membership card of the official breed club in my country together with this code of ethics.

7. I will have my breeding dogs, as well as their offspring, identified by microchip and DNA profile, including verified pedigree. If the dog has been imported into Europe, a new DNA test will be performed at the Van Haeringen Laboratory to establish a new DNA profile.

I will not be able to do this.

8. If the lab needs to take a new sample – if the DNA sample was insufficient or if the original verification of origin is questionable, I promise to work with the lab and provide a new DNA sample (following the instructions on the sample form) to ensure a proper result.

9. The name and permanent identification number (microchip number and DNA profile) will be included in all correspondence or official documents such as health tests, applications and other registration forms so that the identity of the dog can be verified at any time.

10. I promise to submit the registration form mentioned in the breed rules and registration requirements in a timely manner to avoid delays in the registration process.

11. I agree that ALFA-Europe may verify the accuracy of the information provided for each application submitted, and at all relevant management levels. I will provide ALFA-Europe with written consent to do so if requested. This may happen if the signed Code of Conduct is not accepted as consent to the investigation.

12. I will include the ALFA-Europe registration logo with the main photographs of each registered dog. I promise that this registration logo with number will be a direct link to the relevant ALFA-Europe registration site.

13. I will ensure that all puppies not selected for breeding, as well as dogs removed from the breeding program, are spayed/neutered. Breeding puppies that are not kept for health reasons will also be spayed/neutered.

14. I promise to cooperate with the health survey that is conducted on all puppy owners to monitor the health of the entire population.

15. My website will have a prominent link (not hidden) to the ALFA – Europe website.

16. In the event that I have violated the Code of Ethics, the Kennel Code and the registration regulations, then the ALFAEurope Council will take appropriate action as outlined in the following paragraphs.

17. In the event that I am accused of violating the Code of Ethics, the Breeders’ Code and the Registration Regulations, resulting in suspension or expulsion from ALFA-Europe, I may request an independent committee to investigate my case. Neither ALFA-Europe nor I will discuss the dispute publicly, i.e. on the website, forums, in mass emails, etc. I accept the final verdict of the independent panel and will not challenge this verdict through legal proceedings.

18. If the Independent Panel decides the case against me, I accept that my name, kennel name and kennel website and the offence will be published on the ALFA-Europe website according to the disciplinary procedures. The decision that litters and puppies from my kennel are no longer eligible for registration will also be published. This publication cannot be legally prevented or challenged. Note: I have read and understand the disciplinary procedures (see the appendix of the Kennel Code and Registration Regulations as interpreted by the Code of Ethics)

19. I agree that in the event of a discrepancy regarding the interpretation of the Code of Ethics, Breeder’s Code and Registration Regulations when translated, the English version of the Code of Ethics, Breeder’s Code and Registration Regulations will prevail.

RESPONSIBILITIES TO THE PUPPY BUYER:

If I register my Australian Labradoodles with ALFA-Europe, I cannot be a member in any other (Australian) Labradoodle organisation. Apart from the European Breeders Club ( IEALB), which has its labradoodles registered with ALFA-Europe. I will not publish the logos of these other organisations on my website.

21. Information on my website that contravenes ALFA-Europe’s rules (Code of Ethics or Breeders’ Code and Registration Regulations) must be edited or removed.

22.

23. I promise to breed only AES Australian Labradoodle. I promise not to breed anything that looks like a labradoodle. I am allowed to breed other internationally recognized breeds, but only if I am a member of an official breed club for that breed and breed according to the rules of that club.

I will not breed any other breeds.

24. For transparency reasons, I will make a prominent reference on my website that I am a breeder of other breeds (which ones).

25. I will not require an entry fee when putting a candidate’s name on a waiting list. But I may require a deposit of 100 Euro on condition that I am convinced of a prospective buyer for the puppy and that this buyer gets the puppy within 1 year.

26.

27.

28. I will provide all puppy buyers with all the information they need. I will show them the results of all health tests, including x-rays, upon request. I will ensure that all buyers are adequately informed about everything regarding the care of the puppy and how to raise it. I promise to assist the buyer with advice if necessary.

29. I will allow the buyer to test for the possibility of allergies when in contact with an Australian Labradoodle, which is proven to be anti-allergenic, before signing the purchase contract. This contact will take place in an environment with minimal possibility of triggering an allergy.

30. A clause must be included in the contract of sale and its provisions in case a demonstrably life-threatening genetic disease appears in the first 24 months of the puppy’s age. According to the contract, the breeder will contribute to the veterinary treatment, up to a maximum of the purchase price of the puppy. Individual details will be specified in the purchase contract.

31. I will state in the contract that if the buyer passes the puppy to another family, they must contact me, as the breeder (puppies cannot be sold over the internet or advertised in the press). If the original owner is unable to do so, I will help find a new owner. Including arranging a financial settlement between the original buyer of the puppy and the new owner.

32. I guarantee the buyer of the puppy a certified ALFA-Europe pedigree (including original documents concerning DNA profile and pedigree verification).Obligations to fellow breeders:

DUTIES TO FELLOW BREEDERS:

33. I will treat my fellow breeders with honesty and respect and provide them with all the information they need from me when purchasing a breeding dog/puppy. To avoid disagreements, I will undertake to write a contract of any agreement between myself and other fellow breeders. Note: In the event that there is a disagreement between me and another breeder, I promise to resolve the issue according to points 36 and 37.

34. If I sell a breeding puppy or breeding dog, I will give all original documentation of the breeding individual to the new owner. If the breeding dog or puppy has been sold abroad, I will send all documents to the new owner by registered or courier mail.

35. I promise that if I sell a breeding puppy to a prospective breeder, I will guide and assist the puppy in every way possible to become a responsible breeder.

36. I am allowed to use surrogate families (caregivers) unless I am specifically prohibited from doing so by the original owner in the contract or it is one of the conditions in the contract that was made for the use of the stud dog. (See paragraph 31).

37. If the breeding puppy is found to have a genetic disease or is found to be unsuitable for breeding, then the buyer has the right to obtain a new breeding puppy from the same line (or another puppy if both parties agree), at the price of a puppy not intended for breeding (at the price of a pet).

38. In case of disagreement or conflict, I will try to resolve the situation in a satisfactory manner for both parties. If the parties cannot reach an agreement, they will appeal to an independent committee (see ALFA-Europe Disciplinary Rules). I will respect its verdict.

39. I promise to provide the Independent Panel with all the documentation it needs to assess the case.

40. I promise to register my kennel name with the IEALB. I promise not to use a name and web address (domain name) that is substantially similar to the name of an existing kennel or breeder’s web address that is registered with ALFA-Europe.

41. By my signature I acknowledge that I understand this code of ethics including all implications. I certify that I have read and understand the disciplinary rules. I agree that in the event of any inconsistencies in the interpretation of the Code of Ethics, the Breeders’ Regulations and Registration Rules and the ALFA-Europe Disciplinary Rules, the English version will prevail.

42. If the breeder’s native language is other than English, he/she shall sign the translated version at the same time.
